Fireplace as Focal Point
The fireplace is always the focal point for the room. It’s impact is huge. So why not make a statement with it. It has great potential. I particularly like when the fireplace is combined with the wall above (over mantle). It adds height and sets the tone for the room. Tartaruga has the most fabulous collection of stone fireplaces with over mantels.
Another good source is Heritage Mantels. They offer marble reproductions of antique originals.
Heritage offers their fireplaces in a number of different marbles. Designing a fireplace focal point is so much fun. If you are working with an existing fireplace and just want to add more interest to it, check out my blog on fireplace makeovers in which I give some ideas on adding ornamentation, integrating the fireplace with an over mantle and refinishing it with faux marble.
Enjoy some inspiration photos.
Love this metallic silver with the white. Modern Masters’ silver offers the best coverage of all their metallic paints. Then add a raw umber glaze to bring out the beauty of any ornamentation and you will have something extraordinary.
Intriguing how the ornament was applied directly to the wall. Not sure whether I like it, but it is an easy to achieve look without any carpentry. Just need some big relief ornamentation.
Similar to the Tartaruga fireplace.
Heritage will have this one.
The ornament on this fireplace could be used as an inspiration to makeover a plain builder’s variety fireplace. All of it can be found at Decorators Supply.
