Pierre-Joseph Redoute, Royal Flower Painter
Nineteenth Century botanical artist, Pierre Joseph Redoute gained international recognition for his precise renderings of plants. Redoute contributed over 2100 published plates depicting over 1800 different species, many never rendered before.
Over his long career he painted the gardens at the Petite Trianon of Queen Marie-Antoinnette as her official court artist. During the patronage of the generous Empress Josephine, Redout’s career flourished and he produced his most sumptuous books portraying plants from distant places such as Japan, South Africa, Australia as well as Europe and America. This print is available for $66 from Amazon as a museum wrap, ready to hang, Damascena Celsiana Rose Canvas Print .
Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. Great price for this one $20 Bouquet of Red, Pink and White Peonies Giclee Poster Print 12×14. I love the idea of using less expensive prints as a series, framing them and hanging them within a wall panel. Here is a photoshop version.
Of course, the prints would be framed. This is Beaux-Artes Georgian Wall Panel Set in Antique Gold. It comes pre-finished in over 30 different faux finishes with 16′ of molding. You determine what size the panel should be. This is a popular use for panels. I like the idea if the pictures within the panel are symmetrical. I don’t care for this foyer from last year’s Kips Bay Show House .
More pictures of his beautiful work. I love them all. I had to have his famous book of Roses, The Roses: The Complete Plates .
The Global Gallery has a wonderful collection of fine art giclees of his work available on canvas, framed or just as prints. Prices start at $16.00.
